Plastic-Free Awareness Month
Gavin Ashley Hairdressing Supports Plastic-Free July
Plastic-Free July is more than just a trend—it’s a global effort to reduce the use of single-use plastics and protect our environment. Since its beginnings as a simple community challenge, it has grown into a worldwide campaign that now inspires over 100 million people across the globe to make more sustainable choices. The goal is clear: to lessen the amount of plastic ending up in our oceans and landfills and to encourage positive, lasting change in everyday habits.
Here at Gavin Ashley Hair Salon in Bury St Edmunds, we’re proud to support this and are committed to making sustainability part of everything we do. From the way we manage salon waste to the brands we choose to work with, reducing our environmental footprint is always on our minds.
One of the key ways we make a difference is by working with The Green Salon Collective. This amazing organisation helps salons like ours recycle materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Colour tubes, used foils, even PPE and plastic lids—these are collected using electric or carbon-neutral transport and given a second life through specialist recycling. It’s a smart, simple way to keep unnecessary waste out of landfill.
We’ve also switched to using eco-conscious products wherever possible. Our hairdressing towels, for example, are single-use, biodegradable towels that break down naturally within weeks, offering a hygienic and sustainable alternative to traditional laundering. It’s just one of the many small changes we’ve made that add up to a bigger impact over time.
Choosing brands that share our values is just as important to us, which is why we love using Aveda. Their hair colour range is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, never tested on animals, and packaged with sustainability in mind. From bottle caps made entirely from recycled plastic to cartons crafted from 100% recycled fibre, including 77% post-consumer material, their products reflect the kind of future we want to be part of.
While we know there’s always more to learn and more progress to be made, we’re proud of how far we’ve come—and we’re excited to keep going. Every appointment you book with us helps support a cleaner, healthier planet, and we’re so grateful to our clients for being part of that journey.
